About Alfred

Alfred A. Macchione is Of Counsel in the Electrical and Computer Technology group at Bereskin & Parr. With almost 40 years of experience, he holds a master’s degree in engineering and graduated from the McGill Faculty of Law as an Elizabeth Torrance Gold Medallist.

Alfred’s legal practice covers all facets of the clearance, acquisition, enforcement and exploitation of patents, trademarks, copyright and designs. Alfred is also well versed in licensing and transactional IP, having led IP deal teams in corporate acquisitions, mergers and financings.

Alfred’s previous experience includes practicing as an equity partner in the intellectual property group of a national corporate law firm and, prior to that, as an IP attorney for a multi-national technology company focusing on drafting, preparing, filing and prosecuting patent and trademark applications in computer hardware and software and electronics manufacturing.

Alfred is a former President of the Canadian National Group of AIPPI and is currently Chair of the international Standing Committee on IT and Internet of that organization.

Alfred is recognized in the IP industry by various publications including Chambers Canada, Chambers Global, IAM Patent 100, WTR100, World IP Review, Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Who’s Who Legal (Canada and Global), World IP Review Leaders, and Legal 500 where he is named a “Hall of Fame” lawyer in intellectual property.
