Reshika Dhir is a partner with Bereskin & Parr LLP, a member of the firm’s Electrical and Computer Technology group and co-leader of the firm's Fintech practice group. She is an electrical engineer, a lawyer and a registered US and Canadian patent agent. Reshika specializes in drafting and prosecuting patent applications for a wide variety of clients spanning a wide range of technologies. Reshika is also involved in the management of Canadian and international patent portfolios of many Canadian and international clients. In addition, Reshika’s practice includes advising clients on patentability and freedom to operate evaluations, as well as industrial design protection for their product and packaging designs.
Reshika’s priority is to provide IP solutions that are practical, cost-effective and tailored to the business goals of her clients. Reshika has extensive experience in telecommunication, signal processing, medical devices, power electronics, payment processing, wearables, cybersecurity, blockchain, artificial intelligence, computer networks, mobile applications and robotics, along with many other technologies.
Reshika also enjoys learning about new technologies and helping startups and high-tech entrepreneurs with developing an effective IP portfolio. Reshika is a guest lecturer for the second year Intellectual Property Law Course at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law. She has also been a guest speaker and expert at IP seminar courses at Osgoode Hall Law School and University of Windsor on multiple occasions. She is an IP advisor, mentor and a speaker at several Canadian innovation centres, incubators and hubs, including ELLA Women YU, ventureLAB, Sheridan’s EDGE and UTM’s ICUBE. She also leads a collaboration with IP Osgoode Innovation Clinic (Osgoode Hall Law School) to supervise its clinic fellows in servicing emerging companies. Reshika is also an active member of the Public Awareness Committee (PAC) and the Internet and Technology Committee at Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), which is a professional association of patent agents, trademark agents and IP lawyers in Canada.
Reshika has gained valuable industry experience while working as a physical designer in semiconductor industry and a system designer in nuclear industry. While obtaining her degrees, Reshika won several awards and scholarships, most notably the Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation Medal at Queen’s University for the highest standing in the final year across all programs in the Faculty of Applied Science. Reshika was also the first place winner at the Mathews Dinsdale & Clark LLP 12th Annual Canadian Labour Arbitration Competition at Osgoode Hall Law School.
