Patricia Folkins is a partner with Bereskin & Parr LLP and Leader of the Chemical practice group. Her practice focuses on preparing and prosecuting patent applications in chemical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical matters. She also assesses new technology and conducts portfolio management.
Patricia completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Yale University before joining a leading biopharmaceutical company where she spent several years as a research scientist and then as a technical advisor in their patent department. She also previously worked at a prominent Canadian university as a Manager of Intellectual Property. Patricia is Chair of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada’s (IPIC) Patent Committee.
She has co-authored several articles that have appeared in scientific journals including The Journal of Organic Chemistry, The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, and Tetrahedron Letters. Patricia has also given presentations on intellectual property matters in general, and on issues specific to chemical and pharmaceutical patenting.
