Important Changes Coming to Canada’s Trademarks Act, Patent Act, and Industrial Design Act

Important changes to the Trademarks Act, Patent Act, and Industrial Design Act providing patent and trademark agents with a statutory privilege for confidential communication with clients will come into force in one year’s time. Royal Asset has been provided to Bill C-59 which, in part, implements these changes and brings Canada in line with the approach taken to such communications in other common law countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
