Bereskin & Parr Partners with RIC Centre, Announces Startup Boot Camp

September 18, 2015

On September 18, 2015, Paul Bertin, RIC Centre Chair, introduced the Startup Boot Camp, a new initiative developed in partnership with firms Bereskin & Parr and Pallett Valo at the Convergence Event in Brampton.

The partnership with RIC Centre aims to develop and deliver new programs to support clients.

“Entrepreneurs told us it was a challenge to find help from professionals to launch early stage companies in a recent (RIC) survey,” said Bertin.

Rallying around startups is the prime role for the RIC Centre as the innovation hub for Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon in the Peel Region. Their mission is to “fast-track entrepreneurs to market”.

“The life of an entrepreneur is a difficult one with many challenges. You need to have access to professionals that can relate to your issues,” said Brent MacKinnon, CEO and Founder of NextGrid Inc.

The Startup Boot Camp will offer bi-monthly workshops to help provide the basics of starting a technology-based business. The added value will be the opportunity for entrepreneurs to meet one-on-one with the professional service providers for more detailed discussion of how to navigate the added complexity at the startup stage of protect their ideas.

“Entrepreneurs invest life savings into their business startups and often don’t understand the basics of Intellectual Property,” said Stephen Beney, Partner at Bereskin & Parr. “An oversight on protecting their idea can sink the business before it gets started.”

Bereskin & Parr is proud to partner with a leading startup and entrepreneur resource in its ongoing mission to provide world-leading IP law services and expertise and build strong relationships with clients, firms, researchers and educators.

The Startup Boot Camp will launch in October 2015. For more information, visit
