Sunil Rao is an associate with Bereskin & Parr LLP. His practice focuses on electrical & computer technology, artificial intelligence, cleantech, financial technology and nanotechnology.
Sunil graduated from the Juris Doctor program at the University of Toronto. While at the University of Toronto, Sunil served as an Associate Editor in the IP, Science & Technology Cell Group of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law Review. He also completed an externship with the Structural Genomics Consortium where he worked on drafting new regulatory exclusivity proposals to encourage open science development of affordable medicines for rare diseases.
Sunil holds a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy degree, both in Electrical Engineering, from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. He completed a Bachelor of Engineering at the K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering in India.
As part of his graduate research, Sunil studied chemical vapor deposition of different thin film semiconductor materials including silicon carbide, cadmium telluride, cadmium sulfide, germanium and zinc telluride. Sunil has co-authored many journal papers on semiconductor materials and processing. He also has industrial work experience in physical vapor deposition of thin metal films in a high-volume production environment at a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.
Prior to being admitted to the Bar, Sunil was both a summer student and an articling student with the firm. He is fluent in English, Hindi, Marathi and Konkani.
