Aaraf Dewan is an articling student with Bereskin & Parr LLP. His practice focuses on drafting and prosecution of patents in life sciences.
Aaraf graduated from the Dual American/Canadian J.D. program at the University of Windsor and University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. He also holds a Master of Science in Cellular and Molecular Medicine and a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Biomedical Sciences with an Option in Medicinal Chemistry, both from the University of Ottawa. While completing his B.Sc. and M.Sc, Aaraf conducted research on the relationship between membrane biology and the cardiovascular metabolism. Specifically, his research focused on Sarcolemmal Membrane Associated Proteins and their impacts on cardiovascular glucose uptake and metabolism.
During his studies, Aaraf placed 2nd place in the US Patent Drafting Competition at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He also competed in the oral rounds at the 2019 Oxford International IP Moot. Aaraf has been the recipient of numerous Book Awards for receiving the top grade in his intellectual property classes, including the top grades in Patent Law, Copyright Law, the Patent Law Clinic, International Copyright Relations, and the Intellectual Property Law Firm Program. During his time at Windsor Law, he was a student writer for LTECLab where he authored blog posts regarding recent developments in patent law and was the President of Windsor Law’s Technology and Intellectual Property Club.
