Bereskin & Parr Establishes Canadian Law School Entrance Awards for Black and Indigenous students

September 21, 2022

Bereskin & Parr LLP is proud to partner with three Canadian law schools – University of Toronto, Western University, and University of Ottawa (Civil Law) – to establish annual Law School Entrance Awards for students who identify as Black or Indigenous, with a focus on those who have prior Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics education. The Awards will be awarded as of the 2022-2023 academic year.

Through these Awards, Bereskin & Parr aims to empower under-represented Black and Indigenous law students and increase diversity in the intellectual property (IP) legal field.

“Black and Indigenous students face many systemic barriers, including financial ones, to pursue legal education in Canada,” said Isi Caulder, Partner and Chair of Bereskin & Parr’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. “We want to do our part to address these barriers for students, address broader diversity concerns in the legal industry, and be allies for positive change. Further, our firm is committed to providing one-on-one mentorship to Award winners to support them on their professional development journey.”

Bereskin & Parr is excited to bear witness to the contributions and accomplishments of the next generation of Canadian lawyers.
